WELCOME TO THE SHOW: Tigers prospect Joey Wentz, armed with new cutter, looks ahead to MLB debut
Tigers lineup: TBA.
Game notes: A couple of young lefties do battle in game four of this extended series. Wentz is making his first major-league start after becoming an Atlanta Braves 2016 draft pick then being traded to the Tigers in 2019. He has a 3.46 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 463 innings pitched in the minors. This year, he pitched to a 4.12 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in five starts for Triple-A Toledo.
Logue threw his first MLB pitches last month after being a ninth-round pick in 2017. The Cincinnati native has a 3.51 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 8.4 K/9 over 430⅓ innings in five minor-league seasons, with most of that work coming below the Triple-A level. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in his five innings Friday vs. the Minnesota Twins and struck out five.
On Tuesday, the Tigers won the first game of a doubleheader but lost the second game, stranding the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
The teams finish the series with a 1:10 p.m. start before Detroit stays put for a series with the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland hosts the Los Angeles Angels.
