Lavarnway goes 4-4 in Mud Hens’ comeback victory

TOLEDO – The Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Nashville Sounds 4-3 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field. Both teams put up two runs in the 1st inning to start the scoring right away. The Sounds got a two-run homer from Abraham Almonte to go up 2-0. Ryan Kreidler started the offense in his return hitting a double on the first pitch he had seen since April 26th. Ryan Lavarnway started the scoring for the Hens with an RBI single scoring Kreidler. Brendon Davis would follow that with an RBI double to tie the game at 2-2. The Sounds picked up a bases loaded walk in the 3rd inning to go back on top 3-2. Trayce Thompson tied it back up with a solo home run to dead center, making it 3-3. Zack Short gave the Hens the lead with a Sacrifice Fly to right in the 6th, making it 4-3 Mud Hens. Short would come up again in the 8th and hit a 2-run single making it 6-4 Drew Hutchison is credited with the win for Toledo bringing his record to 1-0, while Derek Law picks up his 8th save. Josh Lindblom takes the loss for Nashville, falling to 1-2 on the season.

The Mud Hens offense was paced by Lavarnway who had a 4-4 night, including two doubles and an RBI. Davis and Thompson each picked up two hits on the night. Short, Kreidler, Josh Lester, Jamie Westbrook, and Jack Lopez each picked up a hit. Short led the way with 3 RBI, as Thompson, Lavarnway and Davis each picked up an RBI.

Chase Anderson got the start for the Mud Hens, going 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, four walks and picking up four strikeouts. Luis Castillo pitched 0.1 inning and retired the only batter he faced. Logan Shore pitched 2.0 innings, picking up a strikeout. Hutchison pitched 2.0 innings in route to the win, allowing one hit and striking out three. Miguel Del Pozo pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and striking out two, picking up his 6th hold. Law pitched 1.0 inning in route to the save, allowing one run on two hits.

What’s Next: The Toledo Mud Hens host the Nashville Sounds for game five of the six game series at 7:05 on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens now cannot lose the series as they currently have a 3-1 series advantage, and at minimum can split the series.
