GAME RECAP (TOLEDO, OHIO): The Toledo Mud Hens come into today’s series finale with the Nashville Sounds, hoping to clinch a series win against the division leaders. RHP Garrett Hill took the mound, as he was seeking to get his first winning decision with the Hens.

The Sounds began the ball game, striking in the first two innings, scoring three runs. However, the Mud Hens brought a tough lineup to the plate, looking to answer the three-run deficit. Trailing 3-0, the Mud Hens got a run back with just one swing of the bat. LF Trayce Thompson tallied his second home run with Toledo, as the Hens now only trailed 3-1. After the Hens held the Sounds scoreless in the third inning, CF Jacob Robson led off the bottom half with a double, and would advance to third after a fly ball, hit by SS Zack Short. but would be out advancing after a groundball by DH Ryan Kreidler. With a runner on for the Hens after a fielder’s choice, 1B Josh Lester hit a double, putting runners on second and third with two outs. Then, LF Trayce Thompson would walk. However, the Hens would leave the bases full, as they still trailed 3-1.

The Sounds would snag a run in the fourth, but the bats were still waking up for the Mud Hens in the bottom half. in the fourth inning, RF Brendon Davis walked with one out. Then, 2B Jamie Westbrook brough the deficit down to just one run. Westbrook (the former Nashville Sound) made it a 4-3 game, obtaining his fourth home run. Later in the inning, SS Zack Short reached base, after grounding into a double play. He would make up for it, after he stole his sixth bag of the season. As he stole second, Nashville would obtain a throwing error, which bounced to the outfield. This allowed Short to score from second to home, tying the game at four apiece.

The Sounds would answer back in the sixth, with a two-run shot deep to right field, giving Nashville the lead back with a score of 6-4. Then, the Sounds would slam the door on the Mud Hens, with a three-run shot in the ninth, extending the lead 9-4. They would hold Toledo silent for the rest of the game, as they would win tonight’s event, splitting the series at three apiece.

NEXT UP: The Toledo Mud Hens will be on the road to Columbus, to take on the Clippers. The new series begins tomorrow (Monday, 5/30/22) at 6:05pm ET.
