Game notes: Faedo is making his first start vs. the Twins and sixth of his career. Last time out, the rookie allowed two runs on two walks and five hits with two strikeouts in a loss Saturday vs. the Cleveland Guardians.
Archer is 2-3 in 12 career starts vs. the Tigers, with a 3.57 ERA. Miguel Cabrera (hitting .409 in 22 at-bats with two home runs) and Jonathan Schoop (.357 in 42 ABs with six home runs) have hit Archer hard, as has Javier Baez (.529 in 17 ABs with one home run). Archer, who, in between stints with the Tampa Bay Rays, was a Pittsburgh Pirate for most of his matchups with then-Chicago Cub Baez, lost to the last-place Kansas City Royals in his previous start. He ceded five runs (three earned) and seven hits in four innings. He struck out a season-low one batter.
After finishing the series Thursday, the Tigers start a road set with the New York Yankees while the Twins travel to the Toronto Blue Jays.
