GAME RECAP (Toledo, OH): After a walk off win in last night’s outing, the Toledo Mud Hens were looking to increase their 4-0 series lead, to five straight wins. The Coon Rapids, Minnesota native, RHP Logan Shore took the mound this evening for Toledo, looking for his third winning decision of the year. Shore currently stood with a 3.41 ERA, tallying 21 strikeouts this year.

Three pitches in, RHP Logan Shore allowed a leadoff home run to the former Mud Hen, SS Dixon Machado, as the Iowa Cubs took an early 1-0 lead. The Cubs would cash in two more runs, after an earlier Toledo error in the inning. A couple of line drive singles extended their lead, 3-0. After all the drama, the Cubs were not finished with Shore in the first quite yet. With two away, the Cubs would tally a two-run shot to left, leaving the Hens stunned, as the score was 5-0 to open the ballgame.

The Cubs would threaten in the second inning, however RHP Logan Shore would escape the inning, with a huge groundball, leading to a 6-4-3 double play. The double play left the Cubs stranding the bases full. The bats would quiet down on both sides, as RHP Logan Shore would start to settle in, after his first inning troubles. He would finish the day, allowing five runs (four unearned) on nine hits, a walk, while tallying three strikeouts. He would be replaced by RHP Louis Castillo.

Similar for Iowa in the second inning, the Mud Hens would threaten, loading the bases loaded with one out in the fifth. However, they failed to drive in any runs, as the score remained 5-0.

In the seventh inning, RHP Ricardo Pinto would come fresh out of the pen, striking out the side. Castillo finished the night, going 2.1 innings of work, allowing three hits, while obtaining three strikeouts. He would be replaced by LHP Tyler Alexander. The Cubs would hit a ground-rule double, due to interference, driving in another run. The Cubs would obtain two more runs in the inning, as the score was now 8-0, heading into the final inning.

The Cubs took tonight’s game with a score of 8-0. However, the Mud Hens still lead this series, winning four out of the five games.
