Tigers lineup: TBA.

Game notes: The Tigers will try to avenge defeat after losing the first game of the series Thursday night. Skubal is finally looking mortal after a hot start to the season. He’s given up seven runs in 11 innings over his past two starts after allowing just five runs (31 innings) across five May starts. He beat the Rangers last July, throwing six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts.

Since Skubal last faced the Rangers, they’ve overhauled their lineup, but it hasn’t necessarily led to more wins. Marcus Semien, Corey Seager and Kole Calhoun, among others, were signed this past winter, as was Gray — but the Rangers are nine games behind the first place Houston Astros in American League West. They also have a slew of teams to climb to grab a wild-card spot (though those seem reserved for representatives of the AL East, which has four teams above .500). Adolis Garcia (12 home runs and 41 RBIs) is another bat to watch for, as is Nathaniel Lowe (eight homers and a .276 batting average).

Gray has had two solid starts and one clunker in June. He sandwiched two starts of at least six innings with double-digit strikeouts and just one run allowed around a five-inning outing in which he gave up five runs and walked four. Luckily for Gray, he gets a Tigers lineup that has scored more than three runs once in its past eight games.

The teams finish the four-game series with daytime starts Saturday (4:10) and Sunday (1:40).
