Tigers-Giants game postponed because of weather

Detroit News

Detroit — A swirl of nasty weather hovered over and around Comerica Park most of the afternoon Sunday, enough that the tarp was on the field and the series finale between the Giants and Tigers was delayed.

It rained some — maybe not as much as was expected — the wind was gusting and temperatures fell 15 degrees throughout the day. Finally, after a five-hour, 10-minute delay, the game was postponed.

There was a two-hour pocket where, though certainly not pleasant, the game could’ve at least started. Radar showed that a second storm front was expected to hit between 3-4 p.m. That never happened.

Finally, it got to the point where playing the game would have conflicted with the Giants’ flight to Miami, where they start a three-game series Monday.

The game will be made up on July 24.

The Tigers won the first two games in the series in walk-off fashion — 7-5 in 11 innings on Friday, and 7-6 in 11 innings on Saturday.

The Tigers begin a three-game series Monday against the Cleveland Guardians at Comerica Park.
