TRENDING: Tigers’ Tarik Skubal takes big step towards MLB return from arm surgery

Game notes: Coming off a double-header, the Tigers and Orioles will square off Sunday for the seventh time in a 10-game stretch due to a scheduling quirk featuring the Tigers playing 15 of their first 27 games against AL East foes (with a 2-12 record against the division entering today). (They don’t play another AL East team until early July.)

Ahead of the doubleheader on Saturday, the Tigers made a series of roster moves, with infielder Andy Ibañez coming up from Triple-A Toledo. However, in order to make that move, right-hander Matt Manning was placed on the 60-day injured list, meaning he can’t pitch until the second week of June. Manning has dealt with quite a few injuries in his short career, including shoulder inflammation, biceps tendinitis and a forearm strain last season.

Fellow Tigers’ pitching prospects Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal are also on the 60-day injured list. Turnbull, of course, is making his sixth start since coming off the injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery during the 2021 season.
