Game notes: It will be a rookie vs. rookie showdown Sunday at T-Mobile Park.

Reese Olson will return to a starting role Sunday as the Tigers prepare to close out their series with the Mariners. Olson made his MLB debut on June 2 against the Chicago White Sox and only allowed two hits and two runs in his first outing.

He has primarily served as a starting pitcher, but Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has also used him in a long relief role, including his last two appearances before the All-Star game.

Olson has at times dominated teams with his slider, with his best outing being on June 24 against the Minnesota Twins when he struck out nine batters while allowing just one run.

After taking a line drive off the leg, Olson was forced to leave the game on June 29 in the second inning. Luckily he was not injured and has looked great ever since. He has an ERA of just 1.29 in the month of July and will look to keep that hot streak going after an extended rest.

On the other side, the Tigers will be facing Bryce Miller, who has been one of the best young pitchers this year. Miller got off to a great start this year, posting a 3-2 record and 3.00 ERA in the month of May, but slowed down in June with a 5.48 ERA in five starts, although he still had a 2-1 record.
