Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland postponed due to rain, doubleheader Wednesday

Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland postponed Tuesday’s game, scheduled for 7:10 p.m., because of rain at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Rainfall began Tuesday evening and didn’t show signs of letting up.

The second matchup in the three-game series has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 4:10 p.m. as part of a straight doubleheader. The seven-inning series finale is set to be played about 30 minutes after the first seven-inning matchup ends.

Right-hander Jose Urena is scheduled to start the first game, and righty Wily Peralta will start the second game.

In Monday’s series opener, Cleveland crushed the Tigers, 13-5, behind five RBIs from switch-hitting slugger Jose Ramirez. Rookie right-hander Matt Manning allowed nine runs in 3⅔ innings, and Cleveland didn’t slow down against Detroit’s bullpen.

The Tigers (34-45) entered Tuesday in fourth place in the American League Central, with Cleveland (42-33) in second place — just two games behind the division-leading Chicago White Sox. The Tigers, however, are 12 games back from the White Sox.
