Not all ejections are created equally.
Miguel Cabrera was kicked out of the Detroit Tigers‘ game on Wednesday with the Texas Rangers after appearing to disagree with a call made by first base umpire Ben May.
The exchange happened in the fifth inning as the Tigers were trailing the Rangers, 6-0.
On a low pitch, Cabrera attempted to check his swing and, as he has for many years, quickly pointed down to the first base line to get the call.

The umpire said he went, meaning Cabrera was down on strikes. Cabrera certainly wasn’t happy with the call, pointing to home plate and then tapping his wrist, but it certainly wasn’t a Bobby Cox reaction.
However, it was apparently enough for May to send Cabrera to the locker room, ending his night. Cabrera was seemingly unaware of the ejection as he went back to sit down on the bench before he was told he had been ejected.
It was a bizarre scene and seemingly a moot point, as the Tigers were trailing, 6-0, and largely unable to get any offense going.
